There have now been 49 Covid-19-related deaths at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – with more than 800 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county.

NHS England statistics show that the current death toll as of 5pm yesterday stands at 49 for the trust, which runs King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton and Mansfield Community Hospital.

There are now 566 cases of Covid-19 in Nottinghamshire county and 276 in Nottingham city.

The UK recorded 980 hospital deaths on Thursday, bringing the total to 8,958.

That death toll, which does not include those who died in care homes or the community, has exceeded the worst daily figures seen in Italy and Spain.

But England’s deputy chief medical officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, warned it was ‘impossible to say we have peaked’, adding that the measures the country was taking with social distancing needed to continue.
