“We’ve been following up on any reports made to us about the guidelines not being followed. Where there are any issues, we’ll work with our partner agencies

– such as local councils – to resolve these.

“We’ve got officers on patrol every day in every area. We’re engaging with people and explaining what the new guidance means for them.

“Anyone who sees people regularly or persistently breaking the rules should report it to us on 101 and we will factor this information into our patrols.

“It’s not nice to be in the house all the time – it’s hard for people, we get that. But this threat is a real one and we all need to do our bit.

“I’d like to say thank you again to everyone who is following the government’s guidance. You’re helping us to focus on where we’re really needed, as well as

helping to protect the NHS and ultimately save lives.”

The government advice is to stay at home, only leave the house for limited purposes such as infrequent shopping for basic necessities; food, medicine, one form of exercise a day, alone or with members of household, any medical need, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, to provide help for vulnerable, work travel, only where you cannot home work. People should minimise their time outside of their household where possible and stay 2m apart outside the household.
