81 further coronavirus cases in Mansfield

A total of 14,531 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Mansfield when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated today, Wednesday, September 22, up from 14,450 yesterday.

The rate of infection in Mansfield now stands at 13,288 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 11,362.

The numbers come as Andy Abrahams, Mansfield mayor, said the ‘battle with Covid is far from over’ as he urged people to keep each other safe and get vaccinated.

There were 74 further coronavirus cases in Ashfield, taking the total number of people confirmed as testing positive for Covid in the district to 16,223 and giving a rate of infection of 12,641 cases per 100,000 people, while the number of cases in Newark & Sherwood rose 60 to 13,390, giving an infection rate of 10,875 cases per 100,000 people.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 33,560 over the period, to 7,530,103.

No new deaths were recorded across the three districts in the last 24 hours, with the Covid-related death tolls since the start of the pandemic standing at 297 in Mansfield, 332 in Ashfield and 215 in Newark & Sherwood.

They are among a total 10,718 deaths recorded across the East Midlands.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19.

Jabs

The figures also show that three-quarters of people in Mansfield have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 72,860 people had received both jabs by Tuesday, September 21 – 76 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

In Ashfield, the number of double vaccinated people stood at 85,024 on Tuesday, 80 per cent of those aged 16 and over.

In Newark & Sherwood, 85,829 people had received both jabs by September 21, also 80 per cent of those aged 16 and over.

Across England, 82 per cent of people aged 16 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
