Coronavirus: Five more die in Mansfield hospitals

The Mansfield Covid-19 death toll has risen again after five more patients being treated for the deadly bug in the town passed away, according to the latest figures.

According to the most recent data released this afternoon (December 31) from NHS England, the patient died in the care of the Sherwood Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust, which runs Newark Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital and King's Mill Hospital in Sutton has recorded a total of 282 virus-related facilities since the pandemic hit.

It comes after Mansfield along with the rest of Nottinghamshire was escalated to Tier 4 yesterday, leaving residents fuming.

It means that the town will face the toughest coronavirus restrictions including the closures of non-essential shops, gyms and personal care services.

Case rates in England remain highest among 30 to 39-year-olds, Public Health England said today.

The rate in this age group stood at 557.5 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to December 27, up week-on-week from 495.4.
