Sutton: ATTFE College learners give back to the community through Nottingham RockCorps volunteering
Learners from Nottinghamshire’s Academy Transformation Trust Further Education (ATTFE) College in Sutton took part in a community volunteering project recently through Nottingham RockCorps, supporting Stonebridge City Farm and Gardens as part of a Nottingham city wide initiative that combines volunteering, skills development and social impact.
The learners worked collaboratively to carry out practical tasks, including gardening, refreshing outdoor spaces and helping prepare the farm for the spring season.
The experience provided a valuable opportunity to apply workplace skills in a real environment while making a positive contribution to the local community.
Throughout the day, learners demonstrated strong teamwork, confidence, respect and a clear sense of responsibility. Staff noted how learners supported one another, built confidence and engaged positively, reflecting ATTFE College’s commitment to inclusive, high‑quality learning experiences.

A college spokesperson, said: “Opportunities like this are vital in supporting learners to develop wider skills for life and work.
"It was fantastic to see our learners working together, growing in confidence and feeling proud of the contribution they made to the community.
"This is inclusive education in action - high expectations, meaningful opportunities and learners feeling valued.”
The volunteering activity was delivered through Nottingham RockCorps, a global initiative that brings together community action, skill‑building and live music.

The programme invites volunteers to give four hours of their time to local community projects in return for a ticket to an exclusive live music event, encouraging young people to engage positively with their communities while developing confidence and employability skills.
Delivered locally by the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire in partnership with RockCorps, it’s powered by lead partner Experian, with a coalition of supporting partners.
These include the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire, E.On Energy, DHP Family, Manchester Airport Group, Nottingham College, Cartwright, Nottingham City Business Club, Forever Notts, It’s in Nottingham and Raven Sky Consulting.
Since its inception, Nottingham RockCorps has mobilised volunteers and delivered projects in partnership with local charities and organisations

By participating in Nottingham RockCorps, ATTFE College learners were able to experience a real working environment, contribute meaningfully to a local organisation and strengthen key personal and social skills that support long‑term success.
The college remains proud to provide inclusive opportunities where all learners can take part, contribute and feel a strong sense of belonging.
