Splash of colour for a great cause at Mansfield school

The Garibaldi School, part of Nova Education Trust, was transformed into a sea of colour as more than 350 students took part in the school's first-ever Colour Run, raising vital funds to support the school's exciting new Garibaldi 5 initiative.

The event, held on the school grounds, saw students navigate a fun-filled obstacle course featuring hurdles, tyre runs, silly string, snow foam and colour stations, where clouds of vibrant powder were launched into the air.

Music, laughter and plenty of encouragement created a great atmsophere in an unforgettable end-of-year celebration.

The Colour Run was organised to raise money for the school's new Garibaldi 5 programme, a pledge that every student will experience five enriching opportunities during their time at school on Garibaldi Road in Forest Town.

These include learning in the great outdoors, visiting a historic site or museum, experiencing university life, taking part in science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics (STEAM) activities, and enjoying a live performance such as a theatre production or pantomime.

Funds raised through the event will help ensure these opportunities are accessible to all students.

As well as completing the course, students were encouraged to gain sponsorship from family and friends, with every participant receiving a medal and certificate.

Additional prizes were awarded based on the amount of sponsorship raised, including extra coloured powder, rainbow whistles and LED glasses.

The event was supported by staff from across the school, who helped marshal the course, throw coloured powder and cheer students on throughout the afternoon.

Paddy Cassidy, head teacher, said: "We wanted to create something that was fun, inclusive and memorable, while also raising money to support the Garibaldi 5 initiative.

"The response from our students was incredible.

"Seeing hundreds of young people encouraging one another, laughing together, and taking on each obstacle with such enthusiasm was fantastic.

"We are so proud of everyone who took part and want to say a big thank you to our parents and carers who supported and encouraged their child's fundraising efforts, our students for their enthusiastic participation, and to all of our staff who helped make the day such a success."

The success of the event reflects the school's commitment to providing enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

Plans are already underway to make next year's Colour Run even bigger and better.
