Nottinghamshire County Council has been reviewing progress on new, expanded and improved schools across the county that have taken place in 2020, as part of the Schools Capital Programme and Schools Building Improvement Programme.

School building projects successfully completed this year include King Edwin Primary School, Edwinstowe, which has had a classroom extended to replace the previous mobile classroom.

The council has also been funding the expansion of academies in the area, as well as projects to meet the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).

One such project was undertaken at Priestsic Primary School, Sutton-in-Ashfield, where a new hygiene suite for children was installed.

The development also included a new staff room, and clearing a partially-blocked fire escape.

Garibaldi School, Forest Town, has also been adapted for a pupil with an extremely rare skin condition, who is vulnerable to UV light.

Councillor Philip Owen, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s children and young people’s committee, said: “We have made good progress this year despite the impact of Covid-19.”
