School visit to Mansfield Fire Museum

Last week Mansfield Fire Museum were visited by around 50 school children over two days from Sutton Road Primary School in Mansfield.

They were shown around the museum and learnt about the Great Fire of London, a topic that they were studying in school.

They were given a first hand experience of the history of firefighting and how it has evolved into modern day technology.

They were invited over the drill yard by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Mansfield Fire Station, Green Watch who hosted them on station to have a look around the modern fire station and their modern fire appliance.

They were shown the equipment carried on the fire engine by the duty crew , it was explained to them what the equipment was used for at incidents.

A kind gesture was given by the school children and their parents, contributing individually they gave the Fire Museum a donation.

The visit to the Museum and Fire Station followed on from a Fire Engine visiting them at school earlier in the week.

Mansfield Fire Museum is a registered charity and is run by volunteers, it is owned by Mansfield Fire Station Preservation Society Trust and supported by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Anyone interested in visiting the museum are asked to give at least a week's notice to arrange a visit as it is open by appointment only, and make a donation when visiting.
