Minister of State for Schools Standards Nick Gibb was welcomed to the district by the area’s MP Lee Anderson and they visited Sutton Community Academy to see what it has to offer students in the town.

During the tour of the High Pavement school, the pair checked out the new science laboratories and its theatre, met students and spoke with prinicipal Pat Butterell who discussed the school’s challenges and his determination to make sure no child is left behind.

Mr Anderson said: “It’s always a pleasure to visit schools. I’m really impressed with the values of the school. The new principal believes that every child matters and he’s determined that everyone gets a first class education.

“The students all looked smart in their school uniform and seemed to enjoy being back in school. I am looking forward to working with Mr Butterell and seeing how the school transforms.”
