The children held had a non-uniform day in the school and the male members of staff have all been growing moustaches throughout the month of November. So far they have raised over £500 and are aiming to raise even more before the end of the month.

“With the national lock down and current Covid-19 restrictions, we were limited in how we could do this. So the children have been raising funds through non-uniform days and some of our staff have joined in by growing these ridiculous moustaches, much to the annoyance of our wives and partners!”

Mr Shah and teaching assistants Jack Farinazzo, Tristan Jones, and John Hayes, deputy head Robert Rumsby and school site manager Mark Jenks started growing their moustaches on November 1 and will shave them off on December 1.

Mr Shah said: "The children think it is absolutely hilarious, seeing us all with moustaches, and there has been a lot of wide-eyed quizzical looks! Growing them has been torturous, but we thought it would be a fun way to raise funds to help families in nee over the winter months and Christmas.

“We’re very aware that times are financially challenging for a great deal of people at the moment. If anyone would like to join us and support local vulnerable families, we ask that you please either donate directly to the Sherwood Forest Foodbank or on our Just Giving page, which can be found on our school Facebook page.”

Keith Hadfield, Volunteer Project Manager, of “Sherwood Forest Foodbank was “incredibly grateful” for the school’s support.

He said “Their fundraising efforts have been fantastic and it is so humbling that they are willing to donate the cash to us. This will go a long way in helping us to feed those in our community who are in crisis at this difficult time.”
