Mansfield school forced to close for two days after it was vandalised

A Mansfield primary school has had to close to pupils for two days after it was vandalised.

Forest Town Primary School, on Clipstone Road West, was closed yesterday and again today, because of vandalism that took place over the weekend.

The school sent a message to parents on Monday, January 20 stating that: "Due to criminal damage to school over the weekend, it is likely that school will have to close today.

"If you wish to keep your children at home then please do so, otherwise you may have to collect them later today."

A further message was sent later in the day, confirming that the school would close, adding: "We have just had confirmation that we are going to have to close school.

"Please can you arrange to collect your children as soon as possible."

"Due to ongoing repairs, we are unable to open school to pupils tomorrow [Tuesday]," a statement on the school’s website said.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but it is due to events out of our control."

A spokesperson for the school said that contractors had attended the school to take samples, which would be sent off for analysis. A report is expected shortly.

It is not yet known what the samples are of.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a report of criminal damage at Forest Town Primary and Nursery School was made on Monday 20 January.

Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 228 of 20 January 2020.
