Mansfield primary pupils enjoy police visit as part of road safety project

Pupils from a Mansfield primary school enjoyed a visit from police officers to assist them with a road safety project.

Officers from Mansfield Neighborhood Policing team spent the morning with children at High Oakham Primary School to help with their class project about road safety and the traffic around their school.

Officers brought the speed gun along so pupils could see for themselves how fast cars are actually travelling on Nottingham Road and Atkins Lane outside the school.

A police spokesman said: “The kids did a fantastic job and all had the opportunity to have a go with the speed gun to check the speeds of passing cars, which they absolutely loved doing. They wrote down all the speeds to use for their class project and we had a really good chat about why driving slowly and carefully near their school is so important.

“We want to say a massive thank you to all the pupils for working so hard with us, and to the teachers for having us along.

“We also want to say a big thank you to all the drivers who were travelling safely below the 30mph limit yesterday. For those who were clocked going over, please remember that this is a 30mph zone. As it's a primary school, we need everyone to stay extra vigilant and watch their speed so we can keep the roads safe for the kids.”
