From caravans to camping, and packing everything up in the family car, the destination has always been a firm favourite.
But as people get older, or more infirm, they are unable to make it to the golden sands, the arcades, or the fish and chip shops that adorn the seafront.
But a coach tour of people recently went on a special trip, organised by Mansfield Woodhouse-based domiciliary care provider Your Home Care.
The company hired a coach from neighbouring business Johnson Brothers and took around 15 clients and five staff to the seaside resort for a day out - all on the house.
Paul Pitchford, a director at Your Home Care, said: “We wanted to do something nice for our clients, to get people out of their homes. Home care is more than being in the home. It can also be about getting out and meeting other people, breaking down barriers.
“We had such a lovely day and it was humbling afterwards when we were called or sent cards by clients confirming that they all thoroughly enjoyed it.”
One of the “holiday makers” was Brian, who said: “ We couldn't ask for anything better - the company, the carers, everything was perfect.
“We are in a position where we can afford to go but we couldn't organise it, so the opportunity to go made it special for us. We haven't been out really since before covid, as we only ever go to the shop and hospital.
“Everyone looked after us so well and made sure we were alright and everything about us. We had a great time and laughed so much and talked all day.”
And he added: “We are very grateful for everything Your Home Care has done. We're coming next time; Bermuda is too far though, so what about Spain? If they organise any more trips, we would love to go.”
And JT said: “It was fantastic and we couldn't have wished for a better day. Not one drop of rain. The meal was lovely, we sat on the seafront and we were offered ice cream, coffees, anything we wanted I'm so happy I went on the day out with everyone.”
One of Your Home Care’s carers who went on the trip was Ebony. She said: “I particularly liked how much we saw our clients smile on the day. It was lovely to spend a whole day interacting with them as friends as well as clients, as that's often how we see them. Overall I've got to say, I'm really proud to work for a care company that thinks outside the box to enrich our clients lives.”
And her colleague Claire added: “I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Seeing our clients’ faces so smiley and happy is something I'll honestly treasure in my heart forever. We all had such a good laugh and a lovely time. We really do give 110 per cent into everything we do to support our clients.”
Your Home Care is the only officially Outstanding home care provider in the Mansfield area, providing a range of services to people who want to stay living independently in their own homes.
