Maun Refuge launches urgent winter coat appeal as refugees face first UK winter without warm clothing

Maun Refuge, a local charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Mansfield, has launched an urgent winter coat and warm clothing appeal as stocks reach critically low levels ahead of the coldest months of the year.
The charity is calling on the local community, businesses and organisations to donate winter coats, jumpers, hats, scarves, gloves and other warm clothing to help protect some of Mansfield’s most vulnerable residents. Many of the refugees supported by Maun Refuge will be experiencing their first winter in the UK, often without appropriate clothing for cold temperatures.
Maun Refuge currently supports individuals, families with young children, and teenagers, all of whom are in urgent need of warm, practical winter clothing. The charity is also extremely low on men’s clothing, particularly size medium.
“As temperatures drop, the need for warm clothing becomes critical,” said Brenda Walker, Charity Co-ordinator. “For many of the people we support, this will be their first experience of a British winter. Something as simple as a warm coat can make a huge difference to their health, dignity and wellbeing.”
Asylum seekers often arrive in the UK with very few belongings and have extremely limited financial means, making it difficult to afford suitable winter clothing. Donations from the community play a vital role in ensuring no one is left facing the cold without protection.
Maun Refuge is urgently seeking donations of:
- Winter coats (all sizes)
- Warm jumpers and hoodies
- Hats, scarves and gloves
- Children’s and teenagers’ winter clothing
- Men’s clothing, especially size medium
How to Donate:
Donations can be dropped off to the Maun Refuge office, Room 4, Civic Centre, Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield, NG19 7BH, between 8:30am-1pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
