Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire visits Academy Transformation Trust College in Sutton-in-Ashfield

Last Friday, November 14, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Professor Veronica Pickering MBS HAC, attended the Academy Transformation Trust College in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
During her visit, the Lord-Lieutenant toured the College Construction Department to meet and personally thank both the staff and learners for their exceptional dedication and effort in respect of their contribution to the recent Remembrance events. This included the creation of more than 400 “Tommy” figures, which have gained recognition across the whole of Nottinghamshire.
These visual reminders of the importance of remembrance have been exceptionally well received and have attracted significant praise.
The Lord-Lieutenant was shown how the incredible Tommie’s are made and heard remarkable stories about each and every Tommy that left the College, destined for a location of significance, at War Memorials, parks, street corners and various businesses and organisations.

In addition, ATTFE College staff, learners, volunteers, and veterans have taken time to create local remembrance installations featuring knitted poppies, poems, and artwork, which were then installed within our communities.
His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant thanked everyone who has actively supported ATTFE College in helping our communities and Nottinghamshire to mark the Act of Remembrance.
Liz Barrett OBE DL, Principal at ATTFE College said: “Our learners, volunteers and staff have once again been at the heart of their communities, honouring our past whilst showing commitment to our shared futures, and I am so very grateful. Naturally, we will “go again” for 2026, developing and deepening this work further.”
