Jerry Green Dog Rescue renews urgent Christmas appeal as rising need leaves more dogs at risk

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has issued an urgent plea for public support this Christmas, as the charity faces one of its toughest times of year. Despite launching its seasonal appeal earlier this month, the need for help has continued to grow, and dogs like Bambi cannot wait.

Bambi, a young Cane Corso puppy found trapped in a soiled crate and surviving on nothing but rice, has become the face of the charity’s Christmas appeal. But behind her story lies a far bigger crisis: the number of dogs needing emergency help has surged, and the cost of providing safe second chances has never been higher.

The charity now receives more than 223 distress calls every month, often from people desperately searching for help for dogs who are frightened, injured, abandoned or neglected. Bambi was one of those calls, and without immediate intervention, her future would have been bleak.

When she arrived at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Bambi was painfully thin, overwhelmed and in clear distress. Senior Dog Welfare Assistant Beth fostered her to help her rebuild trust. “It’s been a joy to foster Bambi and watch her confidence return,” Beth said. “But seeing how much she had suffered shows just how urgently dogs like her need our support.”

As Bambi settled into safety, a series of veterinary assessments revealed the full impact of her early suffering: severe leg deformities caused by long-term neglect. Only costly specialist surgery would allow her to live without chronic pain. Her case alone is just one of many which can cost the charity up to £4000 and there are currently many dogs just like her in need of their help.

With more dogs arriving in crisis and the cost of veterinary care rising sharply, Jerry Green Dog Rescue is appealing once again to the public to help close the funding gap. The charity is asking supporters to give £50, or whatever they can afford to help provide safe refuge, expert care and the chance of a future where each dog becomes somebody’s dog.

Christina Marriott, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are seeing more dogs in urgent need than ever before, and the cost of caring for them continues to rise. Bambi’s story is heartbreaking, but she is sadly not alone. Without public support, we simply cannot continue to answer every call for help.

This Christmas, we are urgently asking people to donate so we can be there for dogs like Bambi who have nowhere else to turn.”

Every donation makes a direct difference and helps ensure that vulnerable dogs receive the safety, warmth and care they desperately need this winter.
