This week, Jerry Green Dog Rescue has launched a heartfelt new appeal inspired by the story of Bambi, a young Cane Corso puppy who was discovered trapped in a soiled crate – starving, dirty, and afraid. With the help of a kind stranger, Bambi was brought to safety and began receiving expert care from the charity’s dedicated team. But her journey to a less painful life was far from over. Now, Jerry Green Dog Rescue is asking the public to help give more dogs like Bambi the safety, care and second chances they deserve this Christmas.

A Story of Hope after Heartbreak

Sold for just £350, Bambi spent her early days confined to a filthy crate in a small flat, surviving only on rice as she grew increasingly hungry and frightened.

When a member of the public discovered Bambi, they began frantically searching for dog rescue centres, and Jerry Green Dog Rescue answered the call. Bambi was just one of 223 calls their team of dedicated volunteers answer every month. Each call has a dog in need at the heart of it.

On arrival, it quickly became clear that Bambi had not only been neglected and starved; she was also in significant pain, overwhelmed and withdrawn. Beth, a Senior Dog Welfare Assistant, began fostering Bambi to give her the time and patience she needed to slowly trust again. “It’s been a joy to foster Bambi and watch her playful spirit shine through” said Beth, who gave consistent care to Bambi as she began her long journey to a less painful life.

The True Cost of a Safe Second Chance

A series of vet visits soon uncovered the true extent of Bambi’s suffering. The neglect she endured had left her with severe leg deformities, and expensive surgery would be her only hope for a life without chronic pain.

But providing that level of expert carecomes at a high cost to the charity. It costs up to £4,000 for each dog like Bambi to find safety, the dedicated care to heal, and a chance to be loved by a family of their own.

This Christmas, Jerry Green Dog Rescue is calling on its supporters, and dog lovers everywhere, to help provide a safe second chance for another dog like Bambi. The appeal asks for a donation of £50 - or whatever people can afford, bringing together a compassionate community whose generosity transforms lives, and creates the moment a scared dog becomes somebody’s dog.

Christina Marriott, Chief Executive Officer at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “Bambi’s story is a powerful reminder of the reality many rescue dogs face. Had our dedicated team not answered the call, she might have faced a future in chronic pain, or worse. We can only continue to be there for dogs like Bambi through the generosity of our supporters. This Christmas, we’re urging people to donate to give more dogs like Bambi safety, comfort and a second chance at life.”

Every donation, no matter the size, helps ensure more dogs like Bambi get the future they deserve.
