From dad bod to marathon man: How Slimming World changed my life

In September 2017, I nervously walked through the doors of Slimming World with one goal in mind, to lose four stone in time for our daughter’s wedding the following May. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I had no idea just how much that decision would change my life.
As the weeks went by and the weight started to come off, I discovered something I hadn’t anticipated, I actually enjoyed the process. That initial four-stone goal soon became six stone and three pounds, and I’m proud to say I’ve maintained that weight ever since with Tracy at her Slimming World group in Eastwood.
Losing the weight gave me confidence I never had before, and it opened the door to new challenges. I downloaded the Couch to 5K app and, to my surprise, I fell in love with running. That new passion led to a once in a lifetime experience in 2021 when I ran the London Marathon for Team Slimming World, something I never imagined I’d be capable of before my weight-loss journey.
8 years later and I still attend group as a target member, and it’s vital that I do. It keeps me accountable, helps me stay on track, and reminds me that Slimming World is about so much more than the scales. The encouragement, support, and friendships I’ve gained from group are an essential part of my success and proof that men can thrive in a group environment just as much as anyone else.

In 2023, I had another unforgettable moment when Slimming World featured my story in their magazine. It was incredible to see my journey celebrated on a bigger stage.
The weight loss has transformed my life in so many ways. I can do more with family and friends, I feel healthier and more energetic, and I’ve even discovered a love of challenges I never had before. And although I swore after the London Marathon “never again,” here I am preparing to run the Manchester Marathon in April 2026 – this time alongside our other daughter. It’s an experience that simply wouldn’t have been possible before I lost the weight.
I’m forever grateful for Slimming World, for the guidance, the group support, and for giving me a life where anything feels possible. Men can do this too, and the results can be life-changing.
If you would love to find out more and make that change in 2026 then come along to Tracy’s, Slimming World group on a Wednesday morning at the Dora Phillips Hall in Eastwood. 7:30am* or 9:00am. (*Early bird session) No booking required.
