Fly me to the moon: Bulwell care home celebrates Frank Sinatra's birthday

Residents and staff at Barchester Hall Park care home in Bulwell were transported back to the 50s when the home threw a party to celebrate Frank Sinatra’s birthday on December 12.
Francis Albert Sinatra was born in 1915, he is estimated to have sold over 150 million records worldwide and is generally viewed as one of the greatest musical artists of the 20th century.
Staff and residents celebrated his birthday by holding a 50s-themed party with songs from his heyday, 50s inspired party food and dancing from the era. They showed some of ol’ blue eyes most famous movies – ‘From Here To Eternity’ and ‘The Man with the Golden Arm’ and reminisced about the 50s.
General Manager, Jodie Rakhra, said: “Lots of our residents are big Frank Sinatra fans and still love his music. We’ve had a fantastic day listening to all his hits from musicals like ‘High Society’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’, finding out about his life growing up and what influenced him. We watched some of his old films which brought back lots of memories for everyone. In the afternoon we had a Frank Sinatra quiz, it is amazing how many songs he has recorded. We all surprised ourselves by how many we remembered!”
Janice Hamstock, a resident said: “I have always loved Frank Sinatra, he was the sound of my youth. Listening to all his old hits has brought back so many memories. We’ve all had a brilliant time reminiscing about dancing the night away back in the day!”
