Mansfield firm wins £1.3 million contract at new hospital

A manufacturer based in Mansfield has landed a £1.3 million contract to play an integral part in the building of a new hospital.

Deanestor, one of the UK’s leading furniture and fit-out specialists, has been awarded the deal by international engineering giant, Laing O’Rourke.

It is for the manufacture, supply and installation of furniture and fittings at the £350 million Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, Wales.

The contract is Deanestor’s 17th project for Laing O’Rourke, delighting managing director William Tonkinson.

He said: “The Grange is a fast-track project which will deliver a centre of excellence in critical and emergency care, and in less than two years.

“We were able to provide the capacity, quality of manufacturing, compliance and logistics management to meet Laing O'Rourke’s stringent requirements and challenging programme.”

Deanestor will make about 3,000 items of furniture for the hospital, including shelving, base and wall cabinets.

It will also procure and fit more than 22,000 products for about 1,450 rooms, from mirrors to drug cabinets and catheter storage units.

Due to open in 2021 and designed by architects BDP, the hospital will provide care for a community of more than 600,000 people.

Deanestor was founded in 1948 to make furniture and fittings for the newly-created NHS. It now employs 150 staff spread across four sites, including one in Scotland.
