Mansfield charity makes regional finals

Mansfield-based charity A Place To Call Our Own has been selected as a regional finalist of the 2016 National Apprenticeship Awards.

The charity has beaten some tough competition to get through to the finals of the East Midlands region and has been named as one of only seven nominees.

APTCOO staff will be up against some big players from across the automotive, construction and hospitality industries.

Carol Burkitt, chief executive, said: “This is beyond our wildest dreams and something that inspired us two years ago, while attending the 2014 awards.

“I said to my colleagues, we will be up there one day and sometimes dreams do come true.

“I am so proud of what we have achieved. Working together as equals with the apprentices to adapt and refine our unique approach has clearly shown we’ve got it right.

“This is a huge achievement for everyone involved and I would like to personally thank the apprentices for the energy, vibrancy and can-do attitude they brought to APTCOO and wish them every success for the future.”

The 2016 awards, run by the National Apprenticeship Service, recognise employers and apprentices from across England which can demonstrate how apprenticeships have made a real difference to their organisation and careers, while recognising excellent businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships, as well as apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.

This year, there were more than 1,000 entries and only 89 employers nationally who went through to their respective regional final.

Judging is now taking place and the winners will be announced at an event in autumn.

APTCOO will then have the chance of becoming a national finalist, if successful at the regional level.
