Adam Brownley and the Nationwide employees working in Meadowhall Shopping Centre, in Sheffield, were named Branch of the Year at the Nationwide Annual Awards on Thursday, November 26.

Held every year, the ceremony acts to celebrate the society’s highest achievers – praising their commitment to customer service, promoting the mutual’s values, improving performance and for being ‘inspirational leaders’.

It is the first time that the building society has ever held the event virtually, giving its 18,000 employees the opportunity to tune in and support nominees.

Kasra Dehghan, member representative at the Society’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre branch, said: “Receiving this accolade and being recognised by colleagues in this way, was an immensely proud moment for us.

"We all enjoy helping our members every day with their banking needs, as well as the special moments in life, such as purchasing a house and helping them see their dream become a reality. It’s certainly really rewarding.”

The Meadowhall Branch – which was crowned top out of more than 700 branches – first opened in August last year and provides a range of services for members while giving them access to the society’s face-to-face video service, Nationwide NOW.

Jon Potts, local director for the North West and North Midlands Region at Nationwide Building Society, said: “I’m so proud of the Meadowhall branch team, their dedication and commitment to serving members makes them fantastic role models in our network.

"The branch has built up a great rapport with its customers since opening last year and, like all our branches, the team is working incredibly hard to support members during what continues to be a challenging time. Huge congratulations to the team, a very well-deserved win.”

Nationwide said its branches continue to play an important role, with the society recently extending its branch pledge to leave any town or city in which it is based without a branch until at least January 2023.

It hopes the extended pledge will reassure members that they will continue to have the choice of speaking to someone they know and trust at a nearby branch during what remains a worrying and uncertain time for many.
