Manchester United legends Jaap Stam and Denis Irwin open new Mansfield business

The former Premier League stars, both title winners with the Red Devils, officially opened the Civic Corner at The Civic Centre in the town.

Kirsty Stanley, the business owner, said: "It was luck of the draw really, we had four footballers coming for a legends evenings but two of them were running late so Jaap and Denis did the opening ceremony for us.

“It’s not every day you get two big name former Manchester United players at your place and everyone was thrilled to see the two of them there.

“We had about 400 people in for the event so it was a great night all round.

“We’ve got plenty more events like that lined up in the coming months with Arsenal legends and Andre Ward coming too.”

The Civic Corner is a cafe, conference and events venue with the cafe open Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 3pm.

As well as the big name celebrity evenings, the owners already have several other events planned, including comedy evenings, family fun events and seasonal events for the likes of Halloween, and Christmas.

The venue, with its versatile room layout, is also available for hire for events like children's parties, weddings, birthdays, christenings, baby showers and proms.
