Huthwaite Roofing Supplies (HRS) provides businesses across the East Midlands and Sheffield with a wide range of building, roofing and landscaping materials including tools and equipment.

Its site on Common Road is being redeveloped with a new building incorporating a showroom, office space and storage. This will allow the company to keep up with growing demand for its products and broaden its customer base.

Work will continue after the New Year and see the demolition of the firm’s former units, which once housed a prisoner of war camp.

Managing director Di Cadman said: “While our business never dropped during the recession, construction is picking up again and we’re winning new contracts all the time.

“The level of investment we’re putting in shows how we’re committed to growing the business and the future looks exciting.”

The company has recruited an apprentice to its warehouse team and is taking on another for the office.

The business caters for major builders, property developers and professional tradesmen as well as DIY enthusiasts. It is expanding its range so it can supply every material necessary for roof building.

HRS is also aiming to attract more members of the public by looking to stock products like doors.

Di said: “We’ll always be a roofing merchants but we want to be more public-friendly as well.”

The business was set up in 1989 by Di’s husband Paul , who sadly died in 2010.

“We talked about this development and I’m doing this in Paul’s memory,” said Di.

The expansion has been aided by support worth £350,000 from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking through its Funding for Lending Scheme.
