Eastwood folk asked to nominate their town for a new Aldi supermarket
Supermarket giant Aldi is calling on Eastwood residents to help bring a new store to their town.
The German supermarket chain recently published its new list of areas across the UK where it wants to open new stores and Eastwood is on in with Nottingham Road being touted as a potential location.

Eastwood is a prime example of an area Aldi wants to move into given that its nearest stores currently for potential customers in aras like Eastwood, Kimberley and Giltbrook are in Heanor and Ilkeston, or back across the M1 towards the city in Hucknall and Bulwell.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We know how important it is for people to have access to affordable, high-quality food close to where they live, which is why we’re asking our shoppers to help us identify the communities that would benefit most from a new Aldi store.
“Opening new stores in these areas means we can bring great value to more customers, while also creating jobs and offering industry-leading pay.”
However, for potential to become reality, Eastwood residents to help push their town to the top of Aldi’s priority list.
To do this, Eastwood residents need to email [email protected] and state they would like Eastwood to be put forward as a potential new store location in the email subject.
Aldi is asking for submissions by June 18 with plans to share the results and unveil the next round of priority locations later this year.
Speaking to the BBC, Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said the chain had recognised that there were ‘areas without an Aldi store’.
He said the expansion from about 1,060 UK stores to a target of 1,500 in the longer-term was designed to address ‘these gaps’.
He continued: "We've always believed that access to high-quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege, and that's why it's our mission to make this a reality for customers up and down the UK."
Eastwood would be part of a £370m expansion plan being proposed by Aldi over the coming years with any project in the town part of a larger £1.6 billion expansion plan the company announced last September.
