Tana Holt from Pleasley, who is heavily pregnant, ordered walking boots for her family from Sports Direct to enable them to go out on longer walks during lockdown.

As she opened the packaging, she was disgusted with what she found inside.

The tissue paper had been shredded into tiny pieces, and a mouse appeared to have made a nest inside one of the boots.

Tana said: “The box smelled a bit funny, but we opened them so my partner could try them on.

“I couldn’t believe what we were seeing – a mouse nest! The packaging was shredded, it was yellow from mouse urine and the box was full of mouse faeces.

“I couldn’t get them out of the house quick enough, but why weren’t they checked?”

The 30-year-old immediately threw the new boots into the garage, disinfected the house and attempted to contact Sports Direct to raise her concerns.

Frustratingly for her, due to lockdown restrictions, her messages were rejected, and direct messages sent to their facebook page were not responded to.

Sports Direct, whose head office is based in nearby Shirebrook recently hit the news after disgruntled workers complained about their working conditions and lack of social distancing at the same warehouse– so the news that they may also have a mouse problem resulted in Tana’s post going viral on facebook.

She had posted online in the hopes of getting some response from the retail company owned by Mike Ashley, but has still had no reply from her complaints.

She has since had to report the incident to her doctor, as rodent faeces and urine can cause illness in pregnant women, along with contacting her two-year-old son Cooper’s hospital consultant, as he has Tracheomalacia – a condition which results in breathing difficulties.
