Hair and Beauty.com on Nottingham Road, Mansfield, which also has a sister salon at Milton Court, Ravenshead, has just been awarded best refurbished salon and best colourist, Louise Woodhouse, in the Nottinghamshire Salon Awards.

Sarah Peacock, joint salon owner with Tracey Foley, took over the Mansfield business earlier in the year. The salon originally opened in 2001.

“The decision to expand into Mansfield during the pandemic was a risk – but one that has proved to be the right decision and winning these awards is such a high point after what has been a tough year for everyone. It’s brilliant,” Sarah said.

“Despite everything, we have had a fantastic year, we just wanted to bring something positive to Mansfield. It’s a town known for its independent traders and they have had a rough time of it.”

The salon employs an 11-strong-team of women offering a range of hair and beauty treatments. It also boasts a champagne nail bar and a spa upstairs.

The innovative business has adapted to the difficult coronavirus situation and has even been offering Covid safe sessions for people who are shielding or vulnerable. Called ‘Covid Tuesdays’ the salon books in one person, with one stylist, in PPE, to limit any chance of infection.

The salon also helps people who have been through cancer treatments and may have lost their hair, or had breast reconstruction. They can redefine the pigmented area on the breast, around the nipple by tattooing.

Sarah said during the pandemic, the salon had also seen more mums and daughters.

"It’s a way they can be together, getting their nails done, enjoying a glass of Prosecco safely, we’ve noticed especially since pubs and bars have closed it’s been popular.

“For some, being unable to get their hair or nails done during the lockdowns has impacted on mental health, some people really their lose confidence, so our services can be quite important,” she added.

“Our wonderful team has worked so hard, and we are proud of Louise and the salon refurbishment for the awards.

"I hope to employ more people locally. The more we do the more we help keep the town going, and compliment other businesses.”
