A picture taken on Friday shows parcels left on the floor outside Hermes depot in the town while they were presumably being sorted for delivery.

The person who took the photo said staff at the company were “not great at social distancing” while they loaded the parcels into vans.

They said: “If Royal Mail did this there would be complaints.”

In response, a Hemes spokesperson said the two people shown in the photo were the only people on site at that time on Friday.

The spokesperson said: “This sub depot had a weekly audit the same day against our stringent Covid 19 processes, including social distancing and PPE, which it passed.

“We will however investigate why the parcels were being sorted on the floor.”
