Ashfield tuition centre celebrates first birthday with a charity collection

A husband and wife team behind a Kirkby-in-Ashfield education centre are celebrating a year since it first opened its doors with a charity donation in memory of their grandparents.

After beginning with just two students last November, James and Tasha Cotterill have now welcomed more than 60 students to the Kip McGrath Education Centre.

They celebrated its birthday with a virtual VIP awards evening and by giving gifts to a local care home.

During the pandemic Kip supplied laptops to the community so they could access education when schools were shut and sent their students prizes, medals and certificates to boost morale and keep them motivated.

The community were eager to spread some Christmas cheer by donating gifts to their birthday appeal, which were donated to a local care home.

Ashfield’s centre director James Cotterill said: “Although this year has been tough, we have been celebrating a year of supporting students and helping them progress.

"We believe our continued growth is down to the service we offer in the local community.

"We are a business that needs to earn a living but above all we are passionate about helping the families in our community; which is why we have done the gift bag appeal in memory of our late grandparents.”

They have collected lots of gift bags which have been given to Beech Court care home in Selston just before Christmas.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community,” James added.

"I know Grandma Joan would be proud.”
