Cherubs Edwinstowe prioritises staff wellbeing for World Mental Health Day and Early Years Wellbeing Week
In celebration of World Mental Health Day and Early Years Wellbeing Week, Cherubs Edwinstowe has taken meaningful steps to support the mental health and well-being of its dedicated staff. Recognising the importance of nurturing not only the children in their care but also the well-being of the team members, the nursery has gone above and beyond to create a positive and supportive environment.
To mark these important global events, the staff at Cherubs Edwinstowe were treated to a special surprise—wellbeing bags filled with thoughtful items to help them relax, de-stress, and prioritise self-care. Alongside the wellbeing bags, the nursery team was welcomed with a selection of healthy breakfast options each morning, designed to nourish both body and mind and promote positive mental health. Furthermore, they plan to end the week with a group yoga session for all staff and children, led by Senior Early Years Educator, Joanne Shorthose.
The initiative highlights Cherubs Nurseries’ commitment to staff well-being, recognising that happy and supported staff are the foundation of a nurturing and effective early years environment.
When staff feel valued and supported, the positive effects ripple throughout the nursery. Studies have shown that workplace wellbeing initiatives can:

• Reduce stress levels: Simple acts of appreciation, like providing healthy food options and well-being treats, help to alleviate workplace stress and improve overall mental health.
• Boost morale and motivation: When employees feel their well-being is prioritized, they are more motivated and engaged, creating a more positive atmosphere for both staff and children.
• Improve productivity: A healthy, happy team is more productive, ensuring that the children at Cherubs Edwinstowe continue to receive the best possible care.
• Reduce absenteeism: Staff who feel mentally supported are more likely to remain resilient in the face of challenges, reducing time off due to stress or burnout.
Cherubs Edwinstowe’s focus on mental health aligns perfectly with the core values of the nursery—creating a caring and supportive environment for everyone involved, from the children to the staff. This week’s activities not only recognise the importance of mental health but also highlight the ongoing commitment Cherubs Nurseries has to fostering a well-rounded, healthy workplace.
“We believe that taking care of our staff’s mental and physical health is crucial,” says Sarah Hickling, Nursery Manager at Cherubs Edwinstowe. “When our staff are happy and healthy, it reflects in the care we provide to our children. It’s all connected.”
As the nursery continues to promote mental wellness and self-care, both staff and families benefit from a warm, positive, and balanced learning environment.
