Established in 2014, the business continues to grow year on year, even in these challenging times.

The Small Awards, organised by Small Business Britain , is a nationwide search for the smallest and greatest firms in the UK, across all sectors.

To qualify for the ‘High Street Hero’ award the business must be a ‘strong high street business that has a proven record of contributing towards the success of their street’.

Andrew Frogson, one of the owners of Sauce and Brown, said: “We are very proud to be recognised in this category.

“For a business based in an ex-mining village to be up for this award, it gives us the strength to keep promoting our local area and community in these challenging times.”

Having closed its doors in March, the shop has welcomed back its loyal customers since reopening in June.

Sauce and Brown continued to trade online and have been receiving plenty of orders but staff much prefer being able to provide the personal touch with customers visiting the shop.

Mr Frogson added: “Offering an experience to customers is the key to the survival of the high street and our local shops.

“It is about local people seeing what local businesses can offer, alongside the personal service, which is missing online.”

Councillor David Martin, cabinet member for streets, parks and town centres at Ashfield District Council, said: “Sauce and Brown are a real asset to our high street, so it is fantastic that they have been nominated.

“Now that Ashfield is open for business, it is more important than ever that we support our local shops.

“Many of our residents have been seeing the benefits of shopping local since lockdown began, and we hope that you will continue to back our high streets.”
