Thee Deadtime Philarmonic and Downpage Liberation set for Derby gig

The group’s music is laced with a punk ethos but dabbles in electronica, heavy rock, earnest singer-songwriter stuff and West Indian beats.

Their singer, Wayne Murdoch, is held in high esteem by luminaries including Tom Robinson and Jarvis Cocker and he has also collaborated with some top names, including former Clash bass player Mick Jones. They were heavily involved in Strummerville, the festival run by Jones in memory of his band’s front man, Joe Strummer.

The band are now touring the UK relentlessly as they work on their eagerly-anticipated new album.

Main support will come from indie-rockers, The Downpage Liberation, who hail from Derby and ran a stage at Dovefest last year.

Their new EP, The Nth Degree, which is available for download through iTunes and the usual online retailers, takes you back to the garage sounds of the 1960s, while maintaining a modern rock edge.

Three-piece rockers Genziani’s Jukebox, who were formed in Swadlincote, will provide an explosive opening to proceedings.

Downpage guitarist Jon McKenzie said: “It’s a real honour to have been asked to support such a great band.

“We can’t wait to play a great show and then watch Thee Deadtime Philharmonic rip it up.

“We’re also really looking forward to hearing what Genziani’s Jukebox have to offer.”

Downpage Liberation teamed up with a top young producer already boasting an impressive CV for their new single.What the Hell? was produced by sound man Adam Fletcher, who has worked with former Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim and legendary film director Shane Meadows.

The single is the second track on The Nth Degree EP, which has been hugely-appreciated by live audiences across the UK since its launch earlier this year.

Front man Richard Castle said: “After speaking to ‘Fletch’, we decided we wanted to stay true to ourroots as a garage band and the new EP reflects that.

“2014 was a great year for us. We met a bunch of awesome people and made some music we’re reallyproud of. I think 2015 is gonna be even better.”

To date, the Downpage have played shows and festivals all over the UK. They have appeared on bills with stars including JJ Rosa, former Inspiral Carpets front man Tom Hingley, former Seahorses singer Chris Helme and legendary cult indie band Neverland in their home city of Derby, where they are the city’s reigning Battle of the Bands champions. Last year the band also worked with Red Hot Chilli Peppers photographer Tony Wooliscroft.

2015 looks a promising year for the Downpage, with discussions already underway for full commercial single and EP record label releases. The Nth Degree is available to preview on Youtube or download from iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and all other online music retailers.
