Present Company will be treading the boards again at Derby Theatre on Friday and Saturday (January 23-24) to perform Aspects Of Love.

This show, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, has been celebrating its 25th anniversary, and can be seen in Derby for the first time.

Following on the heels of Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera, this show is a joyful, edgy, tumultuous romance extolling youth and love.

Set in France, the intricate and thought-provoking plot charts the tangled relationships of two Englishmen, Alex and his artist uncle George, with three women: a French actress Rose, an Italian sculptor Giulietta and Rose’s daughter Jenny, a young girl blossoming into womanhood in a hot-house atmosphere of intertwined lives and loves.

The show explores how their actions are compelled by their emotions, Love Changes Everything, and how their affairs convert the many “aspects of love” into a Journey of a Lifetime. There are multiple infidelities, multiple lovers - and multiple implications.

This Andrew Lloyd Webber, sung through, modern musical takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride from awakening passion to ultimate loss.

Laura Brookes is thrilled to be playing the French actress Rose Vibert. Laura has always loved the music of Aspects of Love, it was the first musical score she bought and she has always hoped for the opportunity to play the part of Rose.

Andrew Lockwood is singing the role of Alex, a young soldier who falls in love with the actress Rose Vibert. Andrew has played a wide range of parts for Present Company, from Alfredo in Die Fledermaus, through the tenor roles in the Ivor Novello repertoire, to the comedy part of Gerald in Me And My Girl.

David Lovell is making his debut with Present Company as George Dillingham, Alex’s uncle, a successful English artist who lives and works in France. David has worked previously with director Jean Gemmell in shows as diverse as Carmen and The Merry Widow. David has sung many leading roles in operettas and in musicals and regularly “frocks up” as the Dame in The Little Theatre’s annual pantomime.

Present Company’s artistic director Jean Gemmell said: “In more than 50 years I have performed in, choreographed and/or directed more shows than I can remember - and have had a wonderful time doing it. In my opinion there really is “No business like Show business”. I have loved Aspects Of Lo ever since I first saw it 25 years ago and I have been trying to get permission to stage it for almost all of those years. Now here it is! The biggest challenge I have ever embraced. This show is not about what people do, it is about what people feel. The intertwined and highly charged relationships of the five characters reveal all “the aspects of love” that could apply to any of us.”

Performances start at 7.30pm on both evenings with an additional Saturday matinee from 2.30pm.
