View to a thrill for Bond fans

An unauthorised parody entitled BOND, written and performed by Gavin Robertson, will be staged at the Old Library Theatre, Mansfield, on February 5.

In this show Bond meets his greatest arch-villain yet - Ian Fleming himself, courtesy of a time-machine, and featuring the smallest car chase ever seen! A classic example of minimum props used to maximum effect.

The production’s visit to town is part of an initiative by Mansfield Palace Theatre working in partnership with its neighbour, the Old Library Theatre, to stage small-scale drama in their studio theatre.

There are two shows booked for this season with more to follow in the year.

In collaboration with County Youth Arts at the Old Library Theatre, the Palace Theatre will present professional touring theatre each season.

The duo join forces and are particularly keen to promote this scheme to senior schools, colleges and also to the general public. They hope that the diverse subject matter of the choice of plays will appeal to a broad cross section of audiences. They are also delighted to introduce some newcompanies to their stages through this initiative.

Productions lined up for Old Library Theatre include An Extraordinary Light by Rob Johnston on March 12, Wanderlust on May 7 and The Shape of Things to come on June 4.

Cultural Services Manager at the Palace Theatre Andrew Tucker said: “The Palace Theatre prides itself on the range of entertainment we present. We have now joined forces with our neighbours, the County Youth Arts in the Old Library, to make use of their Studio Theatre. This way we can jointly present small-scale drama with one or two actors in a show on a fairly frequent basis.

“We hope that by doing this we will bring a lot of very different work to Mansfield that might otherwise not be seen locally.”
