Unforgettable play from tim

There is to be a regional tour of Unforgettable, running from May 20-June 14.

Unforgettable is the first winner of the company’s annual full-length playwriting competition, Long Play 2014. Its tour will open at the Guildhall Theatre, Derby, from May 20-23, before heading off around the East Midlands to other venues, and finishing at Crich’s Glebe Field Centre on June 14. The opening coincides with National Dementia Awareness Week.

Unforgettable, directed by Theresa Keogh, is the moving story of the relationship between a brother and sister over the course of their lives. It’s the most unexpected things that rekindle the unique sibling bond. An ageing parents is one. Alzheimer’s is another. But ‘Life’s too short’; there’s new places to go, new people to meet and new discoveries to be made - not least between brother and sister and their family experiences past, present and future.

Tim Elgood’s funny and poignant play sheds light on the effects of dementia on family relationships, but is ultimately the story of Jed and Rosie, their revelations about growing up, growing old and a lifetime of rediscovery.

A qualified social worker, writer Tim Elgood (pictured) said: “My career in social work has without doubt been an influencing factor of this play. Added to that, you can only write about what you know, and this play is dedicated to my mother-in-law, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

“I tried to not let Unforgettable become over sentimental, I always try to look at the humorous side of situations, as the subject matter could easily lead to something that’s too dark and there’s a lot of humour in this play. I think the subject will strike a chord.”
