Trash TV - but so watchable

Some TV regulars always seem to draw the short straw when it comes to their latest on-screen appearance.

That’s more than obvious with comedian Bobby Davro, languishing in a lacklustre Celebrity Big Brother, which comes to end on Channel 5 this Friday, more than can be said for former Westlife member Brian McFadden, who is kept busy in Who’s Doing the Dishes welcoming four new guests who have to guess which “minor celebs’ house” they are dining in each day (ITV1, Monday-Friday).

It’s trash TV, but so watchable afternoon viewing as the mystery host cooks a three-course meal - and if the team guess the cook’s identity they win a cash prize, if not they’ll be doing the dishes.

However, such domestic drudgery wasn’t on Myleene Klass’s ever-busy work schedule as, fired up from hosting BBQ Champ and her usual spots of belting out the music on Smooth Radio and Classic FM, she found time to jet out halfway round the world to the tiny island of Mogmog in the South Pacific in Singing In The Rainforest.

This mish-mash of a series on Watch TV saw Ms K fronting a five-part look about musicians leaving their creature comforts behind to strike up the right chord with remote tribes from all over the world.

In her case she dropped in on the Ulithians who saw her grand piano shipped onto their tiny island - reachable only by boat and with no running water or electricity - to create an island recording studio.

The series, which travelled onto Panama on Monday when the Embera Drua tribe played host to the Happy Mondays, moves on to Namibia next week in the company of the Charlie Simpson.

Away from all this travelling, there’s plenty at home to look forward to over the next few days.

Wednesday: ITV1 - A live episode, hopefully, of Coronation Street as part of ITV’s 60th birthday celebrations.

Thursday: Channel 4 - Will the Scottish Highlands provide safe haven for GP Ricky Allen as he tries to evade his pursuers in Hunted?

Friday/ Saturday: BBC1 - It’s showtime again with a two-part spectacular start to a new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Sunday: BBC 1 - Tonight’s classic drama features Cider With Rosie, Laurie Lee’s evocative coming-of-age story set in an idyllic Cotswold village during and immediately the Great War.
