Students put on British play

‘Attempts on Her Life’ by Martin Crimp, is being brought to life by West Notts College students on the ‘BA (Hons) Applied Studies in Theatre’ top-up degree, on Wednesday 18th December.

They will adapt Crimp’s scenarios for the theatre, which were first staged at the Royal Court in 1997, portraying a rollercoaster of 20th century obsessions from pornography and ethnic violence to terrorism and unprotected sex.

Students will portray an array of nameless characters in an attempt to invent the perfect story to encapsulate today’s world, showing the way we view people and ourselves, sometimes humorous, often shocking and always entertaining.

Tutor Andrew Proctor said: “In tackling such a challenging text the students have excelled in acknowledging the author’s sentiments, imaginatively and creatively commenting on a range of moral ambiguities found in a world of globalisation and consumption.

“Creating character and plot in a play that has neither, is an artistic achievement in itself, and one that invites an audience to question its own societal role.”
