Strike threat cancels show

A top comedy show that was due to come to Mansfield Palace Theatre in October has been cancelled because of the threat of local authority industrial action.

Jamie Wilson Productions and the Mansfield Palace Theatre have jointly decided to cancel the performance of ‘Stones in his Pockets’ which was due to take place on Tuesday 14th October 2014.

A theatre spokeswoman said this is because of the threat of planned industrial action as a result of the strike called by Unison and GMB on that day.

“As it is not possible to ascertain in advance if the show will be able to be staged on that day or not, it has been decided that the better option is to cancel the performance now and to advise customers of the situation.

“This will hopefully give them the opportunity to make alternative arrangements to see the production elsewhere and will remove the potential for greater disappointment and frustration for customers on the day of the show if it is only cancelled then.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she added.

The cancellation is a blow for the town as Stones in his Pockets has been a runaway success, with a sell-out run on Broadway and a four-and-a-half year run in the West End.
