See new musical on Dickens’s tale

Big Adventures Youth Theatre present their third annual musical at the Robert Ludlam Theatre, based in Darley Abbey, Derby, from July 22-25.

This will be a brand new show based on Nicholas Nickleby, the epic tale by Charles Dickens.

Nicholas Nickleby is the darkly funny story of a young man’s fight to survive the struggles of financial independence, the corruption of society and the intricacies of young love.

In this sprawling satire of Victorian values we meets some of Dickens most memorable characters including the sadistic one-eyed school master Wackford Squeers, the delightfully theatrical Mr

Crummles and the tragic young Smike.

This original musical condenses the enormous plot into a fast moving, highly entertaining show bringing together a cast of 50 young people aged 12 to 18 from schools across Derbyshire.

Big Adventures Youth Theatre always aims to challenge talented young people and, following the highly acclaimed sell out productions of West Side Story and Singin’ In The Rain, this new musical is no exception.

Nicholas Nickleby features a book, lyrics and music by Dave Culling, specially for this production by Big Adventures Youth Theatre.
