Play proves a hit in Alfreton

But the bid to rob unsuspecting families came unstuck when a new recruit got cold feet.

Crooks and Nannies attracted large audiences when it was staged by the drama group at the town’s Wesley Methodist Church.

And collections raised over £360 for Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of group member Mike Howell, who died earlier this year.

The three-act play had a cast of eight - including newcomer Michael Dawson who took over his role less than a week before first night.

“Michael did a brilliant job after joining the team at such short notice,” said producer David Hopkinson.

Other cast members were Rita Borondy, Caroline Dellow, Keith Gibson, David Hopkinson, Glenn Robbins, Eleanor Robinson and Terry Thorpe.

June Parker was prompt and Craig Gibson was in charge of music and lighting.

Thanks were expressed by ministers the Revs Adrian Smith and Derek Kellington.

The performances were followed by refreshments.
