Packed summer of family events lined up at Civil War Centre

Museum chiefs at the £5.4m National Civil War Centre have launched a packed family events programme for the holidays, including exciting storytelling, craft activities and demonstrations, in the setting of the Old Magnus Building, Newark.

Join a brilliant drama workshop (booking required) to find out how sides in the 17th century civil wars came up with ever more colourful insults for each other and discover what life was really like on the front line from veteran solider Obadiah Ringwood.

There will also be chance to build giant sculptures of a flamboyant cavalier and stern puritan in the Tudor Hall and have a go at making your own hobby horse, sword and regimental banner.

“These fantastic activities are all great fun, but will also help children find out more about this amazing period in our history,” said Carol King, Learning and Participation Team Leader.

Events started on July 25 and will run throughout the school holidays and are included in the normal price of admission: £7 adults, £6 concessions and £3 children.

Entry is free for season ticket holders and half price for English Heritage members.
