The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards to honour creative excellence and the outstanding achievement seen on and off stage

Launched in March this year, ‘My Theatre Matters!’ is a nationwide campaign aimed at galvanising public support for regional theatres across the UK in response to cuts in local government funding.

Voting for the Playhouse will help support its ongoing commitment to making great theatre for everyone, putting on entertaining, thought-provoking plays, events and participation opportunities.

Stephanie Sirr, chief executive of Nottingham Playhouse, said: “Without audiences a theatre has nothing at all.

“Our tireless team work incredibly hard to make sure everybody who comes to the Playhouse has a wonderful time – from buying tickets, to meeting friends in the bar, enjoying a great show and being waved off at the end of the night.

“We won Most Welcoming Theatre in the TMA awards in 2007. It really gave a huge boost to some exceptionally hard working staff here at Nottingham Playhouse, so we’d love to be in the running for this new award- ‘My Theatre Matters’.

“We matter to people, and the work we do, as part of the fabric of a truly regional theatre, is valuable, easily lost and under pressure.

“In the face of this, the Playhouse is programming boldly, expanding its artistic team and seeking to grow its participation opportunities, thus enriching the cultural and social fabric of the region, we hope our local audiences really get behind us and vote for Nottingham Playhouse.”
