It includes over 30 film previews, celebrity and industry guests, talks and panel discussions. The festival also includes new feature length and short films, curated from worldwide submissions on the theme of Evidence; and concludes with a final weekend exploring all things horror, science fiction and fantasy courtesy of the Fantastiq Film Festival.

Jenny Agutter will be a special guest at the Festival talking about her career in film on Thursday, May 7, at 6pm. Jenny Agutter began her acting career on television as a child in the mid ‘60s and made the leap to the big screen in the 1970s, appearing in classic films including The Railway Children, Walkabout, Logan’s Run and Equus. She has now built up an enviable career taking in material as diverse as An American Werewolf In London, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble as well as Spooks and Call The Midwife on the BBC. The festival programme also includes a selection of screenings these films.

Director Peter Sasdy will be appearing as part of the Fantastiq Film Festival to talk about his career directing Hammer films like Taste The Blood Of Dracula, Hands Of The Ripper, Countess Dracula as well as the terrifying BBC Christmas special The Stone Tape. Peter Sasdy In Conversation takes place on Saturday. May 9, at 6.30pm.

Adam Marsh, Derby Film Festival co-director said: “We have decided to send Derby Film Festival back to the shadows of noir. From classics like Kiss Me Deadly and Out Of The Past to the excellent Steve Martin noir mash up Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. It’s great to be able to put these classics back on a cinema screen, and on 35mm film prints in many cases.

“I’m also delighted to be showing three personal film favourites of mine which are also films that are connected in some way; Blow Up, Profondo Rosso (Deep Red) and Blow Out. All share a theme of non detectives being brought into a murder because of something they think they have seen or heard, all three films handle this in very different and equally interesting ways.”

“We always try to highlight some of the under-recognised areas of cinema and the film industry within Derby Film Fest; this year we welcome Dr Jacqueline Riding, historical consultant on Mr Turner to talk about the role of the historical honsultant in film – it should be a fascinating talk.”
