Creating theatre for family

It is common knowledge that good habits formed as a child can set a youngster in good stead for adult life.

The team behind Mansfield’s Create Theatre is hoping that this philosophy also rings true for theatre-going - and has put together its first family season with the hope of attracting the next generation of theatre audiences from the local area.

The programme features well-loved classic children’s stories as well as shows that use puppets, toys and dance to entertain and educate.

Create Theatre co-ordinator Adam Pownall said: “It’s an exciting time for us at Create Theatre as we proudly launch our family theatre season alongside our main programme.

“With so many great shows especially for the little ones, we’re certain that it’s going to be a hit for the whole family.

“There are some well-known classics such as Pinocchio, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Alice in Wonderland as well as some original story-telling and puppetry with Isabel’s Well and Too Many Penguins.”

Going to the theatre has traditionally been seen as a middle-class pastime but the type of shows on offer at Create and the relaxed atmosphere it has, break down this class barrier.

It is hoped that more people who do not usually go the theatre will take their family down and develop a love for live performance art.

“We’re passionate about being a family-friendly and affordable venue, helping to inspire the next generation of theatre-goers,” said Adam.

“For our weekend performances there’s free parking, buggy parking, easy access, activities, refreshments and more.

“We’ve got everything covered to make you feel welcome and make your day with us unforgettable.”
