Brass brand champions to play new work in Shirebrook

Brass band champions Black Dyke are performing a concert in Shirebrook on Saturday, November 7.

The National Champion Band of Great Britain 2014, European Champions 2015 and British Open Champions 2014, Black Dyke Band will be playing at Shirebrook Leisure Centre at 7pm.

Organised by Bolsover District Council in conjunction with Shirebrook Town Council, this unique concert will feature a specially commissioned piece by the council to commemorate the centenary of World War One.

It is based on the Laurence Binyon poem To the Fallen, used each year at cenotaphs around the world and will be narrated by BBC Radio 2’s presenter of Listen to the Band Frank Renton to the music.

Also included in the evening’s repertoire will be 633 Squadron by Ron Goodwin, March from the Pines of Rome by Respighi, Dam Busters March by Coates, Jerusalem, Pomp and Circumstance No.1 by Edward Elgar and Fantasy of British Sea Songs, plus more.

The concert will be led by Black Dyke Band’s music director, Professor Nicholas Childs.
