Mansfield Operatic Society will be heading back to the 1930s with this hit-packed musical about the little orphan girl with the big heart.

The title role will be played by Ella Wragg and Maddison Naylor.

Ella (pictured) will be following in the footsteps of mum Claire, who played Annie for Phoenix Theatre Group for a production at the Palace in 1985.

Ella and Maddison will be joined in the cast by Dave Egan as Oliver Warbucks, Sean Curtis as Rooster, Carolyn Frith as Miss Hannigan, Helen Mumby as Grace Farrell, Jane Wright as Lily St Regis and Wayne Shutt as President Roosevelt. Annie was first performed in 1977 and is based on a comic strip. Set in the Great Depression of the USA, it features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. It tells the story of the little orphan girl who enriches the lives of those she meets with her positive attitude to life. Famous songs in the show include Tomorrow. Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, Maybe, I Don’t Need Anybody But You and You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile.

Performances are nightly from 7.15pm on March 7-11. There are also matinee performances on March 11-12 from 2.30pm.Tickets cost £12. Call the box office on 01623 633133.
