Ashrow to return to Buxton Fringe

In 2011, Ashrow were nominated for Best Theatre Award for their production of Being Nice by Mark Niel. And they return this year with more new writing but in a completely different vein.

Set during World War Two, character-led drama Troublesome People portrays life on the home front as never seen before. The very ideology of war is questioned, igniting pressure and sparks inevitably fly.

With a cast of seven, Troublesome People explores the relationships between a young pacifist couple, two German Jewish refugees, their squabbling farmer hosts and a local Quaker. The action takes place on the Isle of Man between January 1940 and summer 1941.It explores the bravery, determination and plight of these individuals caught on the periphery of global conflict .

Rowan Scarborough, the company producer who also plays Leni, said: “I’m really pleased to be able to return to Buxton, especially after Being Nice did so well four years ago! I’m incredibly proud of Troublesome People and really hope audiences in Buxton will enjoy it as much as they did Being Nice last time.”

Troublesome People will perform at Buxton Fringe on July 22-26 before moving on to the Edinburgh Festival and then Ashrow will be in Derby in September to perform Troublesome People in the Guildhall Theatre.
