Every year staff at the Leeming Street museum put together an exhibition for the summer, with past themes including the seaside, toys and games and regional food.

This year the theme is Trains, Boats and Planes, focusing on why the last century was a golden age of travel.

The rise and fall of ocean liners, the dawn of the jet age, the spread of motorways and railway engineering feats such as the Bullet Train and the Channel Tunnel are some of the events that it covers.

As usual, the exhibition will be very much family-oriented, with lots of things to keep little ones happy and occupied, including daily travel-themed craft activities, creating things such as cardboard pull-along trains and kitchen roll submarines, to egg box lorries and juice-carton boats, via teddy bear passports and cardboard car parks.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 26th July until Saturday 27th September.
