We leave the northern side of the village via Pennyunk Lane to our first stop at the glorious viewpoint of Monsal Head where refreshments will be available.

We then descend to the Monsal Trail at the viaduct with two options at the Cressbrook Tunnel:

  1. The high level "sheep track" over the top of the Monsal Trail tunnels or
  2. Continue through the tunnel along the Monsal Trail to the Litton Mill turn off.

We then leave the trail and make our way to Brushfield. We then descend via Brushfield Hough into the Wye Valley to cross the A6 at the White Lodge picnic site our second stop of the day.

We then head south west along Deep Dale with a steep climb to exit the dale and move towards Sheldon.

From Sheldon we make a short detour to explore the Magpie Mine site. As a living museum this splendidly captures the scene of an active lead mine a century ago. The main shaft descends 728 feet.

We then return to Sheldon and drop back down into the Wye Valley. Then a short walk along the A6 back to our starting point.

A shorter walk option from Monsal Head is available by continuing along Monsal Dale to join the A6 at the White Lodge picnic site.

The coach departs from Ashford in the Water at 5.15pm.

In the morning, the coach departs from the "Staff of Life" pub in Sutton in Ashfield at 9.17am, from the Eastfield site at the Blue Bell at 9.22am and from the bus stop outside Asda at the Bancroft Lane end of Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at 9.30am.

The coach fare is £14, accompanied juniors free.
