Supergroup call for music talent

There is one last opportunity for talented young musicians to audition for Nottinghamshire County Council’s latest Supergroup, the county’s answer to the X-Factor.

Already young hopefuls from across the county have taken part in auditions which have been held at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham and at the Old Library in Leeming Street, Mansfield.

There have been musicians and talented artists from areas including Newark, Worksop, Southwell, Broxtowe, Gedling and West Bridgford taking part in the bid to join the group. Auditions have so far featured vocals, acoustic guitars, drums, bass and keyboards etc.

The final chance to audition will take place on Wednesday, July 29, from 5pm-8pm at the Old Library, in Leeming Street, Mansfield, the home of County Youth Arts.

Councillor Liz Plant, vice-chairman of the children and young people’s committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We had a good response to our first round of auditions - we’ve already signed up some great talent - but would like to run a final round to see if we can increase the talent pool across the project.

“So if you have missed out so far and want to audition there is still time – but we need to hear from you soon. After the auditions, Boot Camp will start on August 3.”

It is the third year that County Youth Arts have launched a long-term music project to find top musical talent within the county, with the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from stars such as acclaimed Nottingham singer Nina Smith.

Previous Supergroup winners Deeper than Forever and New Communication both enjoyed success, selling EPs, signing to record labels, performing alongside other bands and established musical talent and performing at gigs.

The county council’s County Youth Arts team is behind a number of innovative projects within the creative industries working with professional artists to help young people realise their full potential.

They have excellent industry links to professionals in London and other big cities and are able to provide top-class support and guidance to musicians, dancers, singers and others interested in getting into these careers.
